The benefits of running to lose weight

Running to lose weight is one of the best ways to lose weight due to the fact you don't need any special equipments, location or gears. Running to lose weight is great because it's flexible and can be done whenever you choose to. You can run indoors in a gym if the weather is bad, of outdoors if it is good. Some people like to even run in the rain when it is cool; the choice is all up to you. Many people like to run with a partner however you don't need other people to run with, but if you have buddies who tend to run at the same speed then you can run with them. This can work even if you run at different speeds. I once had a partner who did a lot of running. When she'd run with me she ran close to me in circles like a wild dog. One item that you do however need is a good sneaker. Try going in to a good athletic shoe store and the employees can help you select a good pair for running.

Precautions when running to lose weight

There is only one drawback to running or jogging. It is so easy to do that you can overdo it. I have never heard of any person hurting themselves by doing too many push-ups or sit-ups but with running you can overdo it. So take guard to keep away from injures. Don't be like some runners and get so preoccupied with your time and distance that you run right into cars, bikes or pedestrians. Remember it's "better to be safe than sorry." Drink water before you run, and take some with you on longer runs, especially outdoors in hot climates. Make sure you warm up adequately and cool down gradually when you are done running. As with any exercise program, it is a good idea to get a thorough check-up and some guidance from your local doctor before you start.

Don't push yourself so hard that you injure your knee and sideline yourself for a few days. This will only retard your progress. Although ordinary running by itself should be adequate for weight loss (unless you are counteracting it with a truly atrocious diet), you may want to add in some sprints after you have been running a few weeks, to increase your stamina and overall fitness level.
