MG: Thanks for having me, Geo. Well, to go back a little, I have been heavily involved in fitness and sports for about 15 years now, ever since I was a teenager. Being involved in sports in high school got me interested in strength training and conditioning. At that point, once I started feeling more energetic, getting stronger, and looking better, I was instantly hooked for life. I'm 30 now and still addicted to the way living a healthy and fit lifestyle makes me feel energetic, confident, strong, and youthful on a daily basis. I decided earlier in my 20's that I wanted to make the commitment to help other people experience the excitement of being fit and getting in the best shape of their lives, especially since we've reached an epidemic of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, etc. That's why I became a fitness professional. It just gives me so much satisfaction to help others, who have struggled for years to get in good shape, and show them that it can be done, and it can be fun in the process. I've expanded over the years from just reaching local individuals with personal training, into being able to help people all over the globe achieve their fitness goals with the reach of the internet. I only hope that my passion for fitness inspires people to take action and improve how they look and feel for life.

GD: Now Mike, there's so many things out there as to what works and what does not work...if you had to pick 3 things that work time and time again to get flat abs, what would they be?

In order to really get lean, the workouts should have a high intensity, with short rest periods, working the largest muscle groups of the body, instead of trying to isolate specific small muscles like the biceps, triceps, or calves.

For the third thing, let's talk about actually training the abs specifically. When it comes to training the abs, if you want real results, I always recommend forgetting about the crunches and situps for the most part. They are ok for someone that is really deconditioned, but most people that already have some training under their belt need a much better stimulus for their abs than crunches. Crunches are one of the abs exercises that actually provide the least amount of resistance, and remember that resistance is what develops and tones the muscles. I provide a ton of great abs exercises in my book, but one of THE highest resistance exercises for the abs, is hanging leg raises (but NOT the way you see most people at the gym doing them). The key to doing these and actually working the hell out of your abs is to curl your pelvis up as you raise your legs. Almost nobody ever does this right. To be honest, the majority of people cannot do this at first, but I provide some stra tegies in my book as to how to progress to doing these correctly.

GD: What are people doing wrong when it comes to developing the coveted "6 pack abs"?

MG: Well Geo, I know this sounds funny to most people, but the MAIN thing that people are doing wrong to get those 6 pack abs is...are you ready for this? They spend entirely too much time focusing on training their abs! Sounds crazy, but it's true. Remember, having a visible six pack of abs is all about getting down to a low body fat percentage. In order to do that, your workouts must focus on stimulating a fat burning hormonal environment in your body, and increasing your metabolic rate. That just does not happen when you focus too much time training a small muscle group like the abs. Instead, you must use the majority of your time focusing on training the largest muscle groups of the body like the legs, back, and chest. That's what stimulates your metabolism and the fat burning hormones that will get you truly lean and sporting a sixxer!

GD: Which exercises are the top exercises that people need to do if they are to get maximum defintion with their midsection?

MG: When it comes to developing the abs themselves, I again refer to any kinds of hanging abs exercises, as well as some good floor exercises like lying leg thrusts (all described and illustrated in my book). MG: I have included a fully comprehensive discussion of this topic in my book, which accounts for almost half of the book, but I'll try to make some nice simple generalizations to get people started on the right path immediately. The most important thing is that your diet is as natural and unprocessed as possible. It almost always comes back to the overprocessing of food that makes it unhealthy, and makes it totally wreck your metabolism and hormone balance in your body. For example, why eat refined grains, when you can eat whole grains. Why eat refined sugar, when you can get natural sources of sugar from a high nutrient whole food like fruit. Why eat highly processed, refined, and hydrogenated vegetable oils (these are THE worst thing in the modern diet), when you can eat natural sources of healthy fats like nuts, avocados, fish, eggs, coconut milk, organically raised meat, and so forth. The point is to not fall for some gimmick like low carbs, low fat, high protein, or any other combination that has you focusing on one macronutrient vs. another. Your body needs all macronutrients to thrive and obtain a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. Trying to cut an entire food group out just works against what your body needs. Pro Fitness Jogger Trampette

As you will see from other views I have various bits of exercise equipment around the house that I have collected over the years. One of these is the Pro Fitness Jogger Trampette. I bought it to use for a cardio workout at home as an alternative to going up the gym, or if I'm feeling very energetic aswell as going to the gym. I was a little unsure at first about the Pro Fitness Jogger as I was unsure as to whether I would get much use out of it aswell as being concerned about using it, I'm not the most balanced person ever, however even I can use the Pro Jogger without falling off, and recommend it as an excellent form of exercise to anyone. Appearance The Pro Fitness Jogger comes flat packed so some assembly is required, however this is minimal and basically consists of screwing the legs onto the top part of the Trampette, it literally takes a few minutes and it is ready to use, you do need to make sure that the legs are screwed on properly before using it to prevent any nasty or embarrassing accidents. The top part (the part you bounce on) is circular in shape and measure 92cm diameter. The edge is slightly padded just to stop you from injuring yourself if you get a little to close to the edge, this is a bright blue in colour, the centre part which is the area you bounce on is black and had the words Pro Fitness written in white lettering across the middle of it, this is attached to the frame with tightly coiled springs. The legs which screw onto the frame are sliver and have black rubber feet on the ends of them, this helps to stop the trampette from moving and slipping about when using it, it also means that you could use the trampette on a tiled floor without fear of it sliding from under you. The Pro Fitness Jogger is a little hard to store as it does not fold up, however if you do want to store it flat you could always unscrew the legs each time you want to put it away, however this is slightly annoying especially when you have got to sit and screw all the legs back onto it when you wish to use it, personally I leave mine in one piece and keep it in the garage, if I had one problem with it, it would be that it is slightly bulky to store. Who Can Use the Pro Fitness Jogger Basically anyone, it is suitable for people of all ages and can hold a maximum weight of 100kg which is 15stone 10lbs. The trampette is also an excellent item for children to use inorder to get the up and active and to keep fit, whilst children may be better with a trampoline designed for children or one that is slightly larger, the benefits are the same for children as they are for adults. The trampette is something they can have fun on whilst exercising. Whilst I think this particular item is more aimed at adults it is actually described as being suitable for all ages so could actually be used by children.

How to Use the Trampette Using the Pro Fitness Jogger is very simple, despite my original concerns. If you have never done this form of exercise before it is best to start of slowly and get your balance. It is advised that you start of by bouncing on the trampette but without actually taking your feet off of the surface, this will help you to get use to using the trampette without losing your balance, this is how I started off and after just a couple of goes I quickly felt more confident at using my trampette. Rather than going straight into a full workout, build up slowly by gradually taking your feet, I found this helped as it increased my stability on the trampette and gave me the confidence to start combining arm movements with leg movements without the worry of losing my balance and falling off or bouncing over the edge. Once you have built up your confidence on the trampette you can really do what you like on it, you can combine arm and leg movements, or even use a workout video with the tramp ette, or if you are a bit short of time you could jog/ bounce on the trampette to get a quick workout in. I find that you only need to use the pro fitness jogger for a short amount of time, whilst I do use it for longer workouts, you can even feel the benefits of it after a short amount of time.

Durability Personally I have found my trampette to be very hard wearing, it has had a lot of use and is showing no signs of wear and tear, it is still in excellent condition despite being use numerous times. I have used the trampette for quite vigorous workouts and it has definitely stood up to the test, I have had no problems with the legs coming loose or any of the springs going. All in all it is a very well made and a very durable piece of equipment. Price I purchased my Pro Fitness Jogger from Argos and it only cost me 19.99 which I think is a very reasonable price. I have seen similar items in various other shops and although the price does vary a little from what I have seen they are generally retailing around the same sort of price. Personally I think it is worth the money as it is of an excellent quality and very hard wearing.

Other benefits of using the trampette as part of your exercise regime is that it helps toburn off calories and generally tone your body. I have only been using my trampette for afew weeks sohave not seen any real benefits from it, however I have noticed that with practise I have greatly improved, and the amount of time I can use the trampette for has also greatly increased. They say that using a trampette is a low impact form of exercise and personally I have to agree with this, whilst I really feellike I have had a good workout afterwards I do not feel any discomfort in my joints which can sometimes happen when running on a hard surface for example.I will definitely continue to use my trampette as part of my workout, personally I do not find it a substitute for the gym and I will continue to visit the gym regularly however it is very useful if for some reason I am unable to get to the gym, I can have a good cardio workoutin my own home. I would recommend this product to a nyone.

For as long as I can remember I have gone through phases of doing sit ups every morning or every night with not a huge amount of effect, I have even tried those machines which work your muscles for you, all of which had limited effect. However last year our gym changed premises and was completely kitted out with new equipment including what looked like large inflatable balls, something that children would play with, however these balls are very effective at toning muscles and increasing stability. Intrigued by the fitness balls and how they worked I decided to do a bit of research and invest in my own (there was no way I could roll around the gym on one of those)

History of the Fitness Ball Stability balls have been around since the beginning of the 1900's by therapists during rehabilitation of neurological patients, it was then made by an Italian toy maker in 1960 and sold under the name of Gymnastik, later renamed again it became widely supplied to rehabilitation centres for the use on patients. However stability balls are now widely available to everyone whether it is at a gym or for the use in your own house, they are not only used by therapists in specialist centres or as parts of specialist programmes. Their advantages became recognised in the 1990's by athletes, they were used to help train and condition them, since then they have been widely used in the sports/ fitness community.

The Pro Fitness Ball (this is the make I purchased) is basically a large silver inflatable rubber ball, and that is it!!!!! The one I have is 65cm in diameter, I think this is about the average size for the fitness balls, however I do know you can get them in different sizes as my gym, has a small, medium and large one. The Pro Fitness Ball comes with a small plastic pump to inflate the ball when you are ready to use it. The ball itself is made from a strong durable rubber type material which is very strong, it can hold the weight of 19stone 10lbs or 125kg, when you fist sit on the ball you can feel it flatten a little under you but it will not burst or split, providing you do not weigh over the recommended weight that the fitness ball can hold, it will easily take your weight. The Pro Fitness ball is also very easy to care for, the rubber material is so simple to keep clean simply wipe over with a wet cloth and dry, I just wash mine with plain water to keep it clean.

You can buy a fitness ball in a lot of sports shops nowadays they really to seem to have increased in popularity, however I bought mine from Argos and it only cost me 6.99 which personally I thought was a excellent price, especially as I get so much use out of it, it really was worth the money. The price really does depend on where you buy it from, however from what I have seen they have all been around the same sort of price, I think the small fitness balls are a little cheaper with the larger ones being a bit more expensive as you would imagine.

How The Pro Fitness Ball Works & Its Benefits The Pr Fitness Ball is so effective because it works multiple muscles at the same time, it works the muscles you are focusing on (eg stomach muscles by doing sit ups) however by performing this exercise whilst balanced on the fitness ball your body has to work different muscles at the same time in order to keep yourself stable and balanced on the ball. So going back to the sit ups, a sit up performed on the floor will help to tighten your stomach muscles as expected, however performing a sit up style exercise whilst sitting on the fitness ball will work all of your core muscles as your body balances itself to stop you falling off of the ball. Exercises There are a variety of exercises that you can perform using the Pro Fitness Ball, some of which I have not mastered myself, however below are a few of the simple ones, ones which even I can do. You can even perform a cardio workout using the Pro Fitness Ball by carrying out sitting jumping jacks on the ball, now this is not something that I have tired as I think I would end up on the floor but I have been informed it is possible, maybe after a bit more practise I will give it a go but for now I generally stick to the simpler exercises, they are just as effective.

Exercise 1 Lay on the ball with your hands behind you head as if you were on the floor doing a sit up, start to lift your shoulder blades off of the ball and at the same time twist your left shoulder towards your right hip and repeat twisting your right shoulder to your left hip. This exercise can be performed without the fitness ball, however by introducing the fitness ball you will increase your workout by making your body work harder by trying to keep itself balanced and in place on the ball whilst performing the sit up style exercise you need to constantly adjust and use those muscles in order to remain balanced and in place on the ball, therefore these muscles are constantly working whilst using the ball as well as the muscles which you are focusing on during that particular exercise you are carrying out.

Exercise 2 This is like a reverse sit up and I see so many people up my gym performing this exercise I decided I should give it a go. You lie across the ball, with the ball under your stomach and your feet on the floor for balance (easier said than done) Lying face down you then begin to lift your chest up off of the ball, similar to a sit up but the other way around. I found balancing and performing this exercise harder than the regular sit up on the ball. Again more muscles are used and your balanced improved as more muscles are used not only for the exercise itself but also to help keep you balanced on the fitness ball.

Exercise 3 This exercise is basically the same as squats, you stand with your back to the wall with the fitness ball in the centre of your back, keep you feet hip width apart. You then begin to lower yourself down allowing the ball to go with you, once your knees are at 90 degrees return to your original position, a and then repeat. Again the same principle as with the other exercises you will use a variety of muscles performing this exercise with the Pro Fitness ball compared to without it.

The Pro Fitness ball is suitable for the whole family, it is even suitable for children to use, one thing that was recommended when I bought my pro Fitness Ball was to start off with the ball softer as the harder the ball the harder it is to use, having the ball more inflated is more suited to those who have had a lot of experience at using the ball, beginners should have it softer making it much easier to use. The ball does come with a small instuction leaflet.

My Pro Fitness Ball Experience I have to admit that I am now not to bad on the Pro Fitness Ball, probably not the most stable person ever but I am getting there. However the first time I tired a Pro Fitness Ball was not such a success, I found it very difficult to balance on and could hardly perform 1 sit up, every time I tried the ball would start to roll from under me, I was convinced I would never get the hang of it. My fianc even tried the ball and attempted to perform the reverse sit up (exercise 2) all he did was roll forward so that his feet were off the ground and his head was on the ground, not the position you should be in. Anyway I persevered with it and have now started to show some improvement. Whilst it is not the easiest of things to use straight away it does work, you can definitely feel the benefits of it, and you can feel the different areas that have been used after working out on the ball. It really does use muscles that regular exercise would not. Overall I would definitely recommend the Pro Fitness Ball it was an excellent price for a very good piece of gym equipment, it can be difficult to use at first but stick at it, it does become easier the more you practise. What ever your goal is whether its to tone, lose weight or strengthen muscle the Pro Fitness Ball is ideal for this. it is a piece of gym equipment everyone should try.
