Digestive Health is Essential For Good Health

The digestive system is a group of organs that break down, digest, and excrete wastes. The organs that make up the digestive system are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and the anus. Parts of other organ systems play a major role in the digestive system too, like the nerves and blood. The liver and the pancreas are also two solid digestive organs the produce juices that reach the intestine through small tubes. Digestion is a process that food that is broken down into smaller parts so that the body can use them for nourishing and energy.

When we eat certain foods that are not in a form in which the body can use as nourishment it must be changed and broke down into smaller nutrients that can be absorbed into the blood and used through out the body. Things like bread, meat and veggies need to be broken down smaller.

Mixing food, moving it through the digestive tract, and chemically breaking down large food into smaller food is what is involved in digestion. It begins with the mouth where we chew and swallow our food and ends in the small intestine. The process of chemically breaking down foods will depend on what kind of food it is. Movement of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine move and mix the food. When the food enters the stomach stores the food, mixes up food with digestive fluids, and empties the mixture slowly into the small intestine. When food is digested in the small intestine it dissolves the mixture more and move sit on to further digestion. Then when all the nutrients are digested into the intestinal walls it goes on to the colon, where they stay for about a day or two or until feces are pushed out through a bowel movement.

There are a lot of digestive disorders and diseases. Some of the more common ones are IBS, constipation, diarrhea, food allergies, GERD, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and Candida. Crohn's disease is an inflammat ory disease of the digestive tract which may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus. Symptoms of it are abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, skin rashes, arthritis, and inflammation of the eye. IBS stands for irritable bowel syndrome, its symptoms include abdominal pain, discomfort, cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and or constipation.
GERD is when your stomach acid backs up into the esophagus and it can cause burning, this is heartburn. This is also known as acid reflux. Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation and sores known as ulcers in the colon and the rectum. They bleed and produce pus it also causes diarrhea. Candida is a genus of yeasts, it can cause thrush in humans and it has a lot of symptoms. Some of them are gas, headaches, excessive fatigue, cravings for alcohol, anxiety, vaginitis, rectal itching, troubles concentrating, mood swings, diarrhea, constipation, acne, depression, sinus inflammation, pms, dizziness, earaches, low sex drive, muscle weakness, irratablity, thrush, athletes foot, sore throat, acid reflux, and chronic pain.

There are a lot of things that you can do to keep your digestive system healthy. Eating the right foods will reduce and avoid intake of foods that are hard to digest like complex sugars carbs, gluten, and phytates. The constituency of carbs w ill make them either healthy or unhealthy for digestion. Avoid foods high in disaccharides.

Over abundance of omega 6 fatty acids cause inflammation in the digestive system. Vitamin D is important to people who have crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. They often become vitamin D deficient, this can cause complications like taking vitamin d from bones and this can cause legs to bow and other rickets like symptoms.

Some fats have anti microbial properties. Coconut oil and butter from grass fed dairy cattle are the best sources. The coconut oil is anti viral, and the butter contains anti microbial fatty acids , which has strong anti fungal effects. Soups and stocks made from bones of chicken, turkey, duck, beef, and lamb are anti microbial, anti inflammatory, and contain nutrients which help build the integrity of the digestive tract.

Taking the right supplements can be essential to digestive health too. Like taking a whole food probiotic, healthy bacteria from healthy soil and plants are missing in our modern day food supply.
