Being fat is a vicious cycle. We eat, we get depressed over our situation, we feel sorry for ourselves, we blame others, then we eat more to try to feel good.

The cycle must be broken. We owe it to ourselves and to our families to adjust our way of living and break the cycle.

There are numerous diet plans that are flashed in our faces every day of our lives. Many people spend thousands of dollars trying to find a diet plan that will work for them.

Before selecting a diet plan that will help you to achieve your desired weight, you must evaluate which plan will work. There are so many fads and fashions in diets. Many of them don't work and some are just plain unhealthy.

It's time to educate yourself about weight loss. It's time to learn how to increase metabolism.

You can't lose weight just by eating less. Your body will recognize the decreased caloric intake and adjust it's metabolism rate accordingly. In fact, your body will hold on to the fat energy as a survival tactic rather than burn it off. It's doesn't make sense to endure the pain of hunger when it doesn't pay off in the end.

Most people won't lose weight on low fat diet plans. Studies have shown that most people who use this plan will eat more. They feel that since they are eating more healthily, it's ok to eat more.

Low carbohydrate diet plans don't work. Your body gets its energy from carbohydrates. Eliminate them from your diet and you will feel lousy. Over an extended peoriod of time is entirely unhealthy.

If you want to lose weight properly, you need to learn how to increase metabolism. Here are a few suggestions.

Eat smaller, more frequent meals. If you wait too long between meals, your body will begin to fight starvation by decreasing metabolism. That isn't the result you want.

Drink plenty of water. Most of the chemical reactions that happen in your body require water. Without water, your body will be unable to burn calories.

Increase your aerobic exercise. They will boost your metabolism for a temporary period of time. It's important to get your heart rate up for about 30 minutes.

Get into some weight training. Muscle will burn far more calories than fat will. Excercise that increases your volume of muscle tissue will increase metabolism.

Finally, always consult with your physician before making significant adjustments to your diet and exercise plan.
