Understanding the Cardiac Diet - Other

Heart related problems are a result of excess accumulation of fatty substances in the artery. Aside from this, oxygen and blood flow is greatly reduced. These are all due to an excessive consumption of fat in the body. So to control the potential risks, restrictions on food and the implementation of exercise routines should be made.

The sad part is - people who get to consider the cardiac diet are those who are already in the higher stages of such cardiac diseases. If only it was implemented sooner. Then again, this diet plan also goes by another popular name - Birmingham Hospital Diet. As the name implies, the diet originated from Birmingham, Alabama. Other names for this diet are "the army diet", "the navy 3 diet", "diet of tuna" and more.

For this diet plan, patients will only take foods that are good for the heart for three consecutive days. The diet will comprise of:

? Reducing the intake of saturated fats? Reducing calories? Weight loss? Low sodium, trans fat and cholesterol diet? Increasing the intake of water

Keep in mind that the cardiac diet is not something patients can use long term. It can also serve its purpose short term. Patients are given these so that doctors can monitor their heart-related conditions properly. For good diet plans you can use after this, you can consult with your doctor or a nutritionist.

Though the cardiac diet is designed for patients with heart-related conditions, many are saying that it is also a goo preventive measure for other healthy individuals. The diet plan can help reduce the weight of a person which is crucial to the patient before undergoing a surgery. It can also lower down blood pressure levels and cholesterol levels.

Since the key concern on patients with heart-related problems is the increased cholesterol levels in their body, this diet can actually restrict the intake of cholesterol. Instead of cholesterol rich foods such as cheese, meat, milk, butter and others from animals, these are replaced by grains, cereals, fruits and fresh vegetables. The cardiac diet also restricts the intake of saturated fats and reduces the consumption of processed foods as well as salt.

Exercise routines are also implemented in this diet plan. It doesn't involve strenuous exercises because meditation and walking exercises would suffice. The important thing is - you need to follow this diet plan for three consecutive days afterwards, you can proceed with your normal diet routine for another four consecutive days before you switch back again to the cardiac diet for another three consecutive days and so on...
